Our 4th generation family-owned FARM believes that quality is in the Small details

Our top priority is the health of our herd. Our staff is dedicated to continuously improving the lives of the herd and maintaining their comfort and health.

Water on our farm is never used for a single purpose. All of our operations recycle water used directly back into our soil, which reduces the use of fresh water for pasture irrigation. We believe that water is a natural resource that can be recycled. Great examples: the water we use to irrigate our organic pastures was most likely previously used to wash down the milking barn concrete floors. The irrigation line is also connected to our returned milk dump tank (giving the soils even more natural fertilizer). The roads are watered to control dust.

Our happy California cows graze using our unique and effective Mob-Grazing technique. Cows are moved every three hours to a different lush pasture. This allows the grass to quickly regrow since the cows only eat the nutrient-dense grass tips. We know our cows approve when their tails swing joyfully.

Our hardworking team has become very good at re-purposing and giving metal, wood, or other farm materials a new purpose.

The Cornucopia Institute engages in educational activities supporting the ecological principles and economic wisdom underlying sustainable and organic agriculture. We are listed as a top brand by this institute in recognition of our very cow-friendly practices and received the highest score of an “outstanding” 5/5 cow rating.

We use regenerative farming practices to replenish our pastures. Our nutritious raw milk and fresh cow’s manure provide excellent material for hungry soil. By mixing our returned product and cow’s manure directly into our pasture irrigation water, the soil receives essential nutrients for growing organic grass to feed our cows.

Our family is honored to live on such bountiful and rich land, active with the natural ecosystem. We work to create a harmonious balance with our local land. Our farm is proud of its organic roots, which began before the larger organic movement grew. While touring our farm, you can enjoy our piece of natural habitat.

From the farm’s beginning, miles of concrete were never in our plans. We have stayed true to this mission by carefully maintaining our lush green pastures, utilizing our land economically, and re-purposing materials and equipment whenever possible.

When one of our happy cows needs care, we use organically approved treatments. For example, if a cow has an infection, we treat her with a garlic tincture and several immune-boosting homeopathic treatments. For a calves’ occasional upset stomach, our soothing cure is a blend of several essential oils and herbal tea. For comfort measures, we use homeopathic remedies such as Belladonna, Hypercium, Aconite, and Calendula. During times of illness, our cows are cared for in our hospital pen, which separates them from the rest of the herd. This allows us to monitor them closely and prevent the spread of illness to healthy cows.

The sun is a very important and well-respected team member. Throughout our organic farm, we utilize solar power in our fencing and other operations. We are very thankful the sun shows up every day for work!

Gravity is another important member on our team, as it starts the flow of water or milk whenever needed. We designed our custom made milk barn and loading docks to utilize gravity, allowing us to work smarter in our operations.

We believe that the best herd is a diverse herd. Our farm consists of nine different breeds: Holstein, Jersey, Holstein Jersey Cross, Guernsey, Montbeliard, Ayrshire, Normande, Brown Swiss, and Milking Shorthorn. We are always looking for the healthiest, most diverse cows to produce our grade-A quality raw milk. Having a diverse herd offers numerous health benefits and several breeding benefits. We search for a balance between high milk producing cows, like Holsteins, and high fat producing cows, like Jerseys, but ensure we only use A2 genetics to breed our herd.

We are extremely proud to be 100% family owned and operated. Our founders, Mark and Blaine McAfee, oversee all day-to-day business and their two children, Aaron McAfee and Kaleigh Lutz, have followed in their footsteps by taking other key roles around the farm. The family continues to grow, as six playful grandchildren now constitute the next generation on the farm with increasing curiosity about the farm-life activities.
