A Note About Egg Discontinuation

After months of consideration, we have made the tough decision to discontinue production of our wonderful bright-yoked pastured eggs at OPDC. This decision was made after completing comprehensive internal food safety audit and after several discussions with our regulators at CDFA and California Department of Public Health on how to better improve our operations.

Earlier this year state inspectors found campylobacter in our raw cream and campylobacter was also found in our chicken areas. This is no surprise, on an integrated organic operation; Campylobacter and chickens go together, it is part of biodiversity.  As a leader in the production of safe raw milk for a growing and emerging raw milk market, OPDC cannot risk the exposure that eggs and chickens bring to the brand and our consumers.
We love our biodiversity and all of us here at the dairy are probably immune to campylobacter. This is not true of our customers. The American immune system has changed and immunity to campylobacter is not as common as it used to be. We do not want to be the product that forces this immunity onto others.
OPDC has decided to focus on doing pastured raw dairy products as perfectly as possible. This means concentrating on our core expertise and not allowing additional products to distract from the mission of delicious safe raw dairy products.
We hope that you can all appreciate this very hard decision. We will be donating or selling our complete egg operation to an organic farmer.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. We look forward to continuing to serve you with healthy and delicious raw dairy products.
