WHOLE FOODS MUST PULL RAW DAIRY: Working to resolve quickly
Saturday, March 13, 2010
Yesterday Whole Foods called the nation's raw milk providers to inform us that as of today, Saturday March 13 at 8 AM, they will be removing all raw milk from their shelves. We want to clarify to all our customers: this is not a reaction to any food safety issue, all our products are in complete compliance with all State and Federal regulations, and there have been no reported illnesses from OPDC raw dairy products.
This is not a safety issue. Our wholesome and delicious raw milk is still available at local stores throughout CA.
OPDC customers may locate their closest store here.
As a very large corporation, Whole Foods must respond to the decisions of their board of directors. Whole Foods' insurance company has decided it will not cover liability for perceived health issues with raw milk until a satisfactory nationwide safety policy for raw milk has been demonstrated.
As you know, Organic Pastures, other raw dairy farms, supportive politicians, and thousands of consumers worked tirelessly last year to get SB201 passed. This failed bill would have given Whole Foods' insurers just what they are asking for.
OPDC has since established in our own dairy all the safety practices set forth in this bill, assuring that our milk is always pure and safe. Until we are able to show our safety policy to Whole Foods, you will not find our milk on their shelves.
But you WILL find it at the many Mom & Pop stores surrounding Whole Foods.
Just go to our store locator and find your closest Organic Pastures raw milk source!
Meanwhile, we'll be getting Whole Foods' insurers up to speed on our state-of-the-art raw milk safety practices. Once they are satisfied, we'll let you know we're back!
When commenting on Whole Foods forums, we ask that you be respectful and aware that they are trying their hardest to manage a national corporation while also staying true to local, community-based principles… not an easy task. |
