Louise's Blog: Comments from a recently rescued cow
Hi, my name is Louise. I was rescued by Janine Bowen on March 1, 2010… the happiest day of my life. My old organic dairy called me 9721, but now I have a name and my new family loves me.

I have made a bunch of new friends, like my Jersey friend Juliet. She is so pretty we hit it off right when I came.
When I first arrived, she asked me why I was so dirty because she thought I would be clean since I was organic…
… but I explained that not all organic dairies are as clean as Organic Pastures.
Even though I have always been an organic cow, my old organic dairy made me live in a small barn during the winter. When I was forced to live in a barn at my old organic dairy, I didn’t get to graze on the pasture, I didn’t have fresh sunlight, I couldn’t move around
freely and I wasn’t clean. At the old organic dairy, my milk was sold as conventional and the poor farmer didn’t even get the value from my milk that he deserved. Now, Organic Pastures makes my milk into wonderful raw butter that thousands of Californians love and appreciate.
My Sponsor is the Janine Bowen Family. Janine and her family live in Altadena, California. They rescued me and my friend McQueen. They named me Louise after her mother Sharon Louise. Sharon Louise passed away last December and is remembered fondly by her family for feeding them raw milk and making her children the “healthiest kids on the block.” Thank you, Bowen Family!
I am also grateful that Malibu Compost started this whole cow rescue thing. They came up with the idea to rescue cows by rescuing my new friend Bu.
She was the first cow to be rescued and she told me horrific stories of living on a conventional dairy and then happy stories of the day the Ritchie Family rescued her and took her to Organic Pastures. Because of her wonderful story, she gets to wear the cow bell showing that she is the example of sustainability.
I want to remind everyone who hasn’t already sponsored and rescued a cow to please act now! There are still 75 of my friends back home waiting to be rescued. Please call 877-RAW-MILK to see how you can help rescue my friends. When you call Organic Pastures, just ask one of the friendly staff for an application for Operation: Cow Rescue and they will help you. If you have thought about rescuing my friends or if this is your first time hearing about this, it isn’t too late. Please help my friends get rescued and call today!
